Mary Conlon – Accounts Manager in Comline Ireland 

Q: When did you join Comline Ireland?

A: Back in 2012 – just after I had twins! I was juggling two jobs at the time but quickly realised Comline was where I wanted to be. I started part-time but moved into four days-a-week, which gives me a great balance between work and family.

Q: What is your role?

A: I manage accounts, credit control, payroll, VAT returns – you name it! It’s not just numbers on a page; it is making sure customers are looked after, payments flow smoothly, and the business keeps moving.

Q: How has Comline changed since you started?

A: It’s grown hugely. When I joined, we were in a smaller unit but now we’ve expanded, taken on export invoicing after Brexit and deal with multiple currencies. It’s fast-paced, but that keeps it interesting.

Q: What makes Comline special?

A: The people. There’s a real family feel here – everyone knows they can come to me or Damien Larkin (Comline Ireland’s managing director) if they’ve got a problem. Things get sorted quickly without fuss. And Damien’s leadership is a big part of that: he’s fair, approachable and genuinely cares about staff and customers.

Q: Do you think people tend to stay long? Why?

A: Working at Comline feels like being part of the family. You’re not just a number – you’re part of the story.

Q: How did you get into accounting?

A: By mistake! I meant to study social care but put down the wrong course code on my college application – absolutely genuine! I ended up in business studies and later accountancy. It turned out to be the best mistake I ever made.

Q: What’s life like outside work?

A: Family, always. We spend time at our place in Donegal, visit relatives and keep up with the kids’ busy schedules. I’m from a farming background, so I’ve always been hands-on and busy. I couldn’t sit around drinking lattes all day – that’s not me!
