From Warehouse Operative to Innovation Leader: Hitesh’s Journey in the Automotive Industry

Hitesh Patel – ERP Manager

Q: Can you share your career journey and what led you to your current role?

My journey with Comline began as a warehouse operative. During this time, I had the opportunity to be part of the MAM go-live project (stock management and cataloguing), which gave me valuable exposure to warehouse operational systems and processes.

From there, I was promoted to warehouse supervisor, where I gained hands-on experience in warehouse management and leadership in the UK. I worked closely with Comline Directors on key projects, including Comline Ireland implementations. It was collaboration on this project with our Financial Director – Shalin that opened the door to my current role.

Q: What inspired your interest in the automotive industry, and how did you become a part of our team?

My interest in the automotive industry was sparked by its dynamic nature and its critical role in connecting people and businesses worldwide. I was motivated by the opportunity to work in an industry that continuously evolves with new technologies and innovations.

Q: Can you describe a significant moment in your career that led to personal or professional growth?

It was working on the site move and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system changes as part of the core team transitioning from Luton to a new warehouse in Bedford. This project was transformative as we successfully integrated a robotic system in our warehouse.

Delivering this project was a turning point, solidifying my confidence in driving innovation and managing large-scale initiatives.

Q: Who has been the most significant mentor in your career, and what valuable lessons did you learn from them?

It has been Shalin Kamdar. Working closely with him on several projects has been an invaluable learning experience. Shalin taught me the importance of strategic thinking, adaptability, and navigating complex challenges. He encouraged me to take ownership of projects and trust in my decision-making abilities, which built my confidence.

Q: Can you describe a time when you implemented a process improvement that significantly boosted productivity?

Paperless picking, using robotics automation, drastically reduced the time spent on manual processes and minimised errors associated with paper-based systems. By integrating robotics into the picking process, we streamlined workflows, improved accuracy, and increased order fulfilment speed.

Q: What is your greatest strength in your role, and how do you leverage it?

I’d like to think my greatest strength is creating an inclusive and supportive environment for my team where everyone feels valued. I thrive in building strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders – to foster trust, collaboration and high-performance.

Q: How do you stay updated with the latest trends and innovations in the automotive industry?

I believe in the 1% improvement theory, consistently looking for small, incremental changes that can add to significant progress over time. This mindset keeps me engaged in learning, problem-solving, and constantly seeking ways to improve my knowledge and the processes I manage.

Q: What core values guide you in your professional life, and how do they manifest in your daily work?

One of the core values that guide me is rooted in the words of His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj: “In the joy of others lies our own.” This principle inspires me to focus on positively impacting those around me.

Q: Where were you born, and how has it influenced your perspective on life?

I was born in Navsari, Gujarat, India, which is known for its rich culture, simplicity, and close-knit community. Growing up there, instilled values like hard work, humility, and the importance of helping others, greatly influencing my approach to life and work.
