CHAMPIONS!
Comline Richardson Racing clinched the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Teams’ Championship at its season-ending race weekend held at Brands Hatch (GP), clinching the title in dramatic style at what was arguably the most dramatic and turbulent meet of the entire season.
How the drama unfolded
Team honours were secured despite a spectacular high-speed crash during the penultimate race of the season involving Comline Richardson Racing driver, Will Martin. So jaw-dropping was this crash, that it was subsequently picked up and published online by major national news titles such as The Daily Mail and The Sun. Contact through Paddock Hill Bend put Will’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) into a high-speed spin - his car travelling backwards at speed into the tyres on the inside of the circuit before vaulting over the barriers and coming to rest on catch fencing protecting a marshal’s post.
Thankfully, Will escaped unhurt, as did marshals and spectators, but this unfortunate incident took him out of contention for the keenly fought driver’s championship. In addition, despite a creditable eighth place finish from team-mate Jack Bartholomew in the same race, the team knew that more points were needed in the second race of the day to bring home the Teams’ Championship.
The challenge at-hand was getting Will Martin’s stricken and badly damaged #10 car repaired in time to compete. Almost unbelievably, and thanks to the herculean efforts of the Comline Richardson Racing mechanics, both car and driver lined up on the grid for race two, just three hours later!
The second race of the day, and final race of the season, brought about more wheel-to-wheel action and the unfortunate retirement of Jack Bartholomew following unwanted contact that broke the steering on his #89 car. This incident left 19-year-old Will Martin to nurse his car home and take the chequered flag in sixth place – enough to secure the much-coveted Teams’ Championship by just nine points and the cue to spark euphoric scenes in the Comline Richardson Racing garage.
Time to celebrate at Comline HQ
Heading straight from Brands Hatch to Luton, the victorious Comline Richardson Racing team received a jubilant welcome at Comline’s global headquarters. Drivers Will Martin and Jack Bartholomew proudly paraded their battle-scarred Porsche racers, and hard-earned silverware, whilst mingling with Comline staff, posing for selfies, and signing autographs. The drivers were also given a tour of the Comline facility, whilst the brand’s marketing team took the opportunity for some end-of-season filming.
During this enjoyable and relaxed event, Comline employees were given the opportunity to take their seat in the cockpit and listen to the roar of the six-cylinder, 510bhp Porsche engine, with many taking a moment to pose for a truly unique photo opportunity.
Off-the-track results also a triumph
Naturally, the title win – and the remarkable nature of it – will be etched in Comline Richardson Racing history; however, for Comline, in its debut season as title partner of the Corby-based racing team, it has also been a hugely successful partnership off the track.
The wrapped cars, adorned in distinctive livery, immediately caught the attention of motorsport fans at the track, and of those following race-by-race coverage on ITV1 or ITV4 throughout the season. This TV exposure has also been complemented by huge traction on social media – Comline Richardson Racing content posted to the Comline Facebook channel has achieved more than 2.2 million views and counting!
Furthermore, Comline was also thrilled to welcome an array of loyal customers from home and abroad to enjoy a truly unforgettable race day experience with Comline Richardson Racing.
